Welcome to Spring Semester 2013! The UAM-CUSE family is ready to start the New Year with unbounded energy and enthusiasm.

This year, CUSE’s study plans reflect an approach that leverages our faculty’s strengths and a balance of innovative and nontraditional careers, while responding to real world needs and employment potential. We will continue to refine our academic offer and services, constructing a more significant and powerful ancillary curriculum for our students, further fostering internationalization on our campus.

Undoubtedly, 2013 will take us all a step closer to where we want to be as students and professionals. We hope the UAM-CUSE experience will contribute to human progress, and to our becoming more conscientious and responsible beings on this Earth.

Dear Mrs. Poveda

UAM-CUSE could not have greater honor than to welcome you as our new provost. I can say with certainty that you have inspired many of us, not only as a teacher or a provost, but as a person. You are an example of what hard work, dedication, passion, and belief can achieve. The greatest lessons I have learned from you are not found in a book, but rather in your experience, from you acting along with what you preach, from every moment in class when you talk so passionately and care so much about something that you try to hold back your tears.

I was born in Somoto, Madriz, on December 2nd, 1978. I was raised in a very poor but, strong family full of values that taught me how to be part of society in order to set the example wherever I went, and to show respect to everybody, regardless their economic position.

After I graduated from high school, I was never able to go to college, which made me decide to start working in order to have something to support my family. After all those years struggling, I had to make one of the hardest decisions ever: leave my town and go to another country in order to achieve my goals, leaving my family behind.

Universidad Americana’s College of University Studies in English (UAM-CUSE) is again transforming itself into an international center of learning. The CUSE 21^st century curriculum attracts students from at least ten countries. The student body is composed of over 20% from other countries. At the same time many CUSE students take advantage of exchange programs to study abroad. To augment this international outlook, CUSE is currently discussing joint programs with several US and Canadian universities.

CUSE graduates are successful in post-graduate universities in the US, Canada, and Europe. In addition, graduates start new businesses, hold positions of trust in Central and North America, and
