ytyUAM-CUSE students contributed a day’s work of beach cleaning to the San Juan del Sur community this last Saturday as a gift to mother Earth on her birthday: Sunday, April 22!  This initiative organized and lead by Tesoros de Nicaragua-TESON and other volunteer groups, walked three kilometers of beach to pick up trash along the shore line and around local restaurants. Students were exhausted but their effort was worth it. Happy birthday Earth!

She competed against twelve other beautiful candidates and was able to steal the hearts and minds of the judges and the public. We wish Farah all the success in this coming year!

IMGP1594We visited San Juan del Sur’s Flying Frog Canopy Tour and Playa Hermosa Surf Camp for our last field trip this Fall semester! We left UAM’s Campus early in the morning and set out for our last adventure together. After enjoying great views of San Juan’s bay and the adrenalin boost of flying among tree tops, we headed for the beach. After passing through luxurious mountains and rivers, we finally  reached the Playa Hermosa Surf Camp beach front hotel.  We enjoyed a great lunch, played volleyball, swam, and tanned together as we saw the sun setting in the horizon. We talked over a bonfire and slept under the stars that night! We will never forget this trip!

A group of 30 students together with UAM-CUSE staff and professors went last weekend to Somoto’s Canyon. Students walked among luscious forest, swam in the Coco river, and enjoyed the Canyon. They did rappelling and climbing while on site and took a tour to one of the local Rosquilla artisan factories in Somoto. It was an exciting experience to say the least!
